Being a mommy is not easy! You have to give up hours of sleep, showers, and eating meals with two hands. You have to make countless decisions each day about how to best care for this little person that has very few ways to communicate his needs to you (they turn out to be more like guesses...let's be honest!). You have to learn to be okay with smelling like pee or sporting a shirt covered in spit up. You have to carefully schedule any appointments, shopping trips, or get-togethers with friends to make sure they fit into the 3 hour cycle of feeding, awake time, and sleep time. You have to make sure to do at least one load of laundry every day, otherwise you'll never catch up! You have to learn how to complete tasks in small increments and be okay with the chance that you may not ever finish that task that day. So, yes...life is different, to say the least!
All that said, being a mommy is the best job in the whole world! I have never in my life felt so in the center of what God has called me to do or be. I love what I do and feel so blessed that God has entrusted me to take care of his precious son, Luke!
I so cherish the moments I get to hold my baby to feed him...a wonderful opportunity to slow down, soak in his smells and little sounds, stroke his soft skin, and pray for him.
I love taking naps with my baby, as he rests on my chest and I doze in and out of sleep.
I love watching him smile and coo at me, even though I do nothing to deserve it!
I adore when Luke grasps my hands or fingers and won't let go.
I love thinking and dreaming about who my little boy will be when he gets older and what God has planned for his life (even though I selfishly want my baby to stay my baby forever!)
I enjoy spending each and every day with my baby and am so incredibly grateful that I get to be home with him...there is absolutely no place I'd rather be!!!
There really is no way to describe this thing called motherhood; no way to put into words how wonderful, beautiful, and incredible it is. And to think, God's love is so much greater for us than mine ever will be for Luke! What an amazing gift that He lets me get a little glimpse of this sort of love!
