Okay...I've been dropping hints and mentioning it for long enough. It's time to record the big move! (I've partly been avoiding it because just writing about it and posting these pictures makes me feel tired all over again! Moving is a huge pain and way too much work!). We are so happy with our new home though, and it is totally worth all the effort! So, here is the saga of our summer of moving!
It all began when we found this home in mid-June...the home that we had been waiting for, praying for, and dreaming of (we had only been on the search for one for about a year!). It had everything we were looking for in a home (and more!), and we loved the neighborhood, the updates, and the layout. I actually knew it was "the one" just by looking at the pictures online, but Nate made me go and look at it in person! Plus, God's timing was perfect, as the advance Nate got from the book he is writing allowed us to help pay for it!
So, we got to work right away, getting this home on the market (we did it in a week, to be exact!). We spent the whole week cleaning, decluttering, and making necessary updates/fixes before putting it on the market. It was a pretty exhausting week!)
Thankfully, we sold in 6 days! We had about 15 showings, and boy I was glad when I could be done cleaning! But, the work wasn't done (far from it!). I had been storing all of my teaching materials in the attic for the past 6 years, and I knew I wanted to go through it and sell some so we didn't have to move it to the new house, since I don't plan to use any of it in the near future. The process was...well, long, and also a little gross. I found about 7 of these guys while going through it all (we had a little mouse problem about 5 years ago in our attic, so I was half expecting it). Thankfully, I was able to sell a LOT of my stuff, and was grateful to see it go to others who would be able to use it!
Especially considering we still had all of this...
and, this. (Nothing like living in a pile of boxes!)
This part was my least favorite. I felt like the bubble-wrapping and glassware had no end!
But, we got it all done (somehow!), and the day came to pack it all up into this moving truck!
Here is what our house looked like on moving day!
And, here is Nate's "excited face" before filling the truck.
That's better! We got it all in! (Thanks to some good friends and lots of help!)
So, we have spent the last month or so making our new house our home with touches like these (I like this part so much better than the packing part!)
And, we are thoroughly enjoying the extra space! (Luke thinks it's great that he gets a whole basement to play in, and leave things out, like this train track.)
Here is our backyard. And, if you look closely, you can see us picking tomatoes in the garden with our new neighbors. Yes, we love our huge yard! And, yes, we are so grateful for our new neighbors, who we get along great with!
We also have train tracks that run behind our house. This has been a great place for Luke to have "adventures" and to explore!
We are so happy with our new home and look forward to many fun memories and good years here!
In fact, it's so great, we have regular visitors who want in on its greatness often! Not only do we have lots of these frog friends, but lots of birds, mice (thankfully only in the window well this time!), and moles.
We have had a few more welcome visitors already too, as we have hosted some family and friends. We would love to have any others who would like to come visit us and share in this joy with us also (we have a great guest room, now!). Let us know when you'd like to come!
