Super Summer

We have had a fun-filled summer so far! We are enjoying being in our new home for the first summer, taking advantage of our big backyard, fire pit, front porch, and neighbor time! We have also ventured out to pick strawberries (we picked A LOT this year so we could freeze a bunch for our new healthy smoothie habit!), visit the Children's Museum (Luke loves the Transformers exhibit, and also had fun at the Hot Wheels one), and check out a new splash pad in town. There has also been no lack of bloody and scabbed knees this summer from all the rough and tumble play of a 5 year-old boy too (as demonstrated in the video below!).

We are also experimenting (it is definitely a learning year!) with our garden in our backyard. We did get LOTS of lettuce and spinach for a couple of weeks, picked green beans recently, and have a ton of tomatoes and squash on it's way! Here is our spinach crop after one picking!

One of the busiest parts of our summer was my involvement in a huge service project at Why Not Today farm, where we raised money for and built a brand new chicken coop for a great family who donates all of their produce and meat to food banks and those in need. They tragically lost their little girl, Kaitlyn, this past February so we built the Coop in her honor, naming it Kaitlyn's Koop. It was a really special day, and something our whole family could participate in. I was in charge of all the hospitality for the day, so I was a busy lady in the weeks leading up to it, but enjoyed serving in this way! The day ended with a gorgeous rainbow in the sky, like a gift from God thanking us all for what we had done!

We also hosted a neighborhood block party at our home. The church helped to put it on, so we rented a bounce house for the kids. Our family got some pre-party jump time together too!

The blow-up toys didn't end there though. The following day, we went to Monsoon Madness at a local park, where Luke got to splash and slide to his heart's content!

Most recently, we spent a week up in Michigan at my parents' home, enjoying the pool, sun, and each other! It was so great to spend time all together as a family! The kids really enjoyed playing together. Nate and I were able to sneak a night away for our 11th anniversary as well.

Finally, we spent an evening mini-golfing with our Community Group. It was a great time to connect and spend some casual time together as a group!

We'll see what the month of July brings! Hopefully lots more fun and relaxation!
