Luke moved into his big boy bed and new room this week.
He never, in 2 1/2 years, attempted to climb out of his crib. He slept well in his crib, and woke up in the morning and from naps happily talking to himself, then would call out for us to come and get him.
But...it was time! For starters, he was just getting too heavy for his momma to pick up out of there two times a day (he's around 37 pounds now!). And, on top of that, we just thought that he would handle the change well. Plus...I wanted to make this transition first before we conquer potty training this winter. So, we worked hard for a couple of weeks to clear out the guest room and change it over to Luke's big boy room! He was so excited as he watched the transformation and couldn't wait to make the move. We went with a construction/tractor/building theme, as he's always been into tractors, and is in a major "Bob the Builder" stage right now! Check it out:
I had him select two road signs from a group of them I found on the internet. Of course he chose the tractor and deer crossing signs (I probably could've chose these out of the bunch for him, but wanted him to have some ownership!)
Here he is in his new bed before he went to sleep in it on the first night! Big boy! He did great! I did pretty well too, until I walked into the nursery to put something in the closet and saw the empty crib. The place my sweet baby slept for over 2 years was empty and I got a little emotional, but I made it through!
And, here he is sleeping in it one day at nap time. Looks pretty comfy, doesn't he?
He has done excellent with the transition, sleeping well, and still calling out for us to come get him when he wakes up. When we tell him to climb up into bed, he always grins in excitement. And, Mommy is pretty happy too, as my back feels just a little more relaxed this week!
This weekend, we are planning to throw one more change at him and say goodbye to the paci. He has only used his pacifier for sleeping for over a year, but now that he's in a big boy bed, we are going to kick that baby habit too. We have plans to wrap up the pacis and give them to Baby Michael, let him pick out a new buddy to sleep with from the store, and endure a couple of hard nights. Who knows, maybe he'll surprise us and it will be easy too! Prayers accepted of course! Growing up is hard work, but exciting stuff! :)
